Florence Nightingale was an English nurse and writer who lived in the 19th century. Inn-telligence were asked to source the hotel accommodation for this tour which follows the footsteps of Florence Nightingale around the UK including medical history tours of London and the Florence Nightingale Museum with time to experience the London Eye and take in a West End show. A visit to her childhood home Lea Hurst takes you to rural Derbyshire with lunch at her local pub, the Jug and Glass Inn. A drive to East Wellow in Hampshire sees St Margaret’s Church, the Nightingale’s family burial site followed by the Nightingale family home, Embley Park.

Optional extended tour to Istanbul, Turkey 2012
During the Crimean War (1853-1856) she tended the wounded and laid the foundations of modern nursing. She was also known as “The Lady with the lamp”, because every night she used to visit the injured soldiers, lighting her way with her candle lamp.

This part of the tour demonstrates the Nightingale legacy and visits the Old Barrack Hospital at Scutari which also houses the Florence Nightingale museum. Cruise the Bosphorus, visit the Cagaloglu Turkish Baths, shop in the Grand Bazaar and explore the Basilica Cistern, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace.

Due to its popularity, this tour continues each year but sometimes in a different format.
